The Pacific Lumber Company was a major redwood lumber producer based in Scotia, California, and played a central role in Humboldt County’s economy for more than a century. Founded in 1863, the company became known for operating its own mill town, railroad facilities, and vast stands of old-growth redwood forest. After years of financial and environmental controversy, the company declared bankruptcy in 2007, and its remaining assets were reorganized under Humboldt Redwood Company.
