The Monomoy Point Coast Guard Station stood near Powder Hole at the southern end of South Monomoy Island, one of the most isolated lifesaving posts on Cape Cod. Built in 1902, its crews watched over the dangerous shoals surrounding Monomoy and responded to vessels in distress until the station was taken out of service and transferred to the federal government in the 1950s.
