The Palais Garnier presides over the Place de l'Opéra on a bright, clear day, its green dome and gilded statuary catching the light. Early-1970s cars — a pale Peugeot 504, a red saloon, a delivery van — cross the broad square below. The Lancel shop marks the corner of the grand building opposite.
